Fanny Girard is a second-year PhD student in Charles Fisher's lab at the Pennsylvania State University. She is looking at the impact of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill on deep-sea corals and their associated fauna using imaging methods. For her Master's project, Fanny has worked at Dalhousie University (NS, Canada), where she examined the invertebrate diversity in a deep-sea coral ecosystem off Nova Scotia, Canada. She has also studied temporal changes in seep communities living on a mud volcano off Norway.
Fanny Girard graduated from Pierre et Marie Curie University (Paris, France) in 2011 and got her MSc in Marine Ecology at the University of Western Brittany (Brest, France) in 2013.
"My interest in ocean exploration started after I dove for the first time at 11 years old. I am now very excited about sailing aboard Nautilus as it will give me the opportunity to take part in great discoveries."
