During the Northeast Pacific Seamount Expedition, E/V Nautilus completed two dives on the Dellwood Seamount, located off the west coast of Canada. Seamounts are underwater mountains that are often extinct underwater volcanoes. These areas provide habitat for a rich ecosystem, and are recognized as Ecologically or Biologically Significant Areas (EBSAs). As less than .01% of the world's seamounts have been explored, the data collected on this expedition is valuable for scientists worldwide. Visual surveys were conducted and biologic and geologic samples were collected during the two dives, some of which you can see in this photo album.
